What else do we collect?
We can recycle a cafe's used coffee grounds for less than 3% of the wholesale price of coffee beans
Latte-free landfill
As used coffee grounds decomposes in landfill, it releases the greenhouse gas methane, and its nutrients are lost. By diverting coffee grounds from landfill, you're not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but also enriching soil used for community gardens and other food-producing ventures.
We're even experimenting with combining hair and coffee grounds as a super-nutrient fertiliser for use in community projects.
From chaff to compost
Roasting all this coffee that we drink is big business in Australia, and produces "chaff" - the outer layer of the coffee bean that dries and is left behind in the process. This organic material can be diverted to compost and other soil enrichment processes to return its goodness back to the earth.
