Who else do we provide services to?
Each day in cafes around Australia, there are over 5m coffees served, and those coffee grinds need to go somewhere.
It's fair to say that Australian's can be obsessed with their coffee - we're in the top 15 countries globally for coffee consumption! Our morning (and early afternoon) pick-me-ups are part of daily life, and are generating tonnes of coffee waste each day that are in most cases being sent to landfill.
Coffee - the new fertiliser
Used wet coffee grinds, and chaff from the coffee bean roasting process, are excellent for creating garden and soil fertiliser. It's an abundant organic waste material that can easily be harvested once that espresso shot has been pulled, and put to use in regenerating and revitalising community gardens, council land projects and the average home vegetable patch.
We are launching our new ReCaf Coffee Pilot Program on the Sunshine Coast QLD in 2026, which turns used coffee grounds into compost.
We're looking for interested cafes and coffee roasters to trial this service, and will use the pilot program to assess volumes, pick up schedules and bin placement, as well as finding worthy community and council projects for repurposing the collected waste.
Contact us if you're a Sunshine Coast cafe or coffee roaster!
High customer volume drives waste
For all other types of cafe waste, we operate a regular collection service that can divert up to 90% of it from landfill.
Resources we collect from cafes:
Plastic bottles, plastic packaging
Glass bottles, aluminium cans
Paper, cardboard
No organic waste
These materials can come from cafes anywhere in the Brisbane, Gold and Sunshine Coast service areas.
